Dating back to 1338, the remains of the ancient house were restored in 2014 to embody the current Monforte Wine Chateau. Inspired by the old traditional lifestyle of the prominent Basilii family (former inhabitants of the nearby Torre de Palma Roman ruins) and Alentejo customs, this hotel was conceived to be your home in the Alentejo.
Torre de Palma Wine Hotel is located in Monforte, a village in the upper Alentejo, in the Portalegre municipality. The name of this village derives from its location, at the top of a solid hill on the left bank of Ribeira Grande. In addition to beautiful views, there is much to be explored here: the Torre de Palma Roman Villa, an important archaeological site; the old castle ruins, which survived throughout the entire Middle Ages; the Roman door and the churches of Nossa Senhora da Conceição and Madalena, where the current local museum, with its archaeological collection, is located. Local handicrafts are powerful cultural and traditional instruments, which have been passed on from generation to generation. Good examples are typical cork and wood works but also in stone, horn, wicker and leather.
Featuring signature architecture that combines simplicity and sophistication, you will find your stay at Monforte Wine Chateau truly welcoming. The Suite includes a King Size bed and a Queen Size Bed, air conditioning, under-floor heating in the bathroom, mini-bar, safe, telephone, hair-dryer, Portuguese Benamôr amenities, WiFi, robe and slippers, iPod dock station and LCD HD TV. Some rooms can accommodate extra beds and/or cribs.
